Answers to our most Frequently Asked Questions
It is paid to an employee who has completed five or more years of continuous service with an employer. In the same manner, it is also payable to a seasonal employee who has worked with the same employer for five or more seasons regardless of the breaks in service owing to the annual shutdowns.
Gratuity is calculated as: Percentage x current monthly salary x number of years served

Payment of NEC dues is a monthly requirement and all employers and employees in the Brickmaking and Clay Products Sector are required to pay NEC dues at the rate of 3% of the employee’s basic salary and 3% from the employer to make an aggregate of 6%. Subscription dues meet the running and administrative costs of NEC. Council dues may be deposited into NEC Brickmaking and Clay Products account No 9140002017694 Stanbic Nelson Mandela Branch Harare. Proof of payment should be brought to the office in order to obtain a receipt.
The General Secretary of the NEC shall maintain an employee register of the number of employees per company who are graded in terms of the C.B.A. Every employer is required to place every employee into the appropriate grade prescribed by the CBA and pay at least the minimum wage prescribed under grade. As per clause 17 of the CBA every employer shall provide contracts of employment that reflect the following
Grade
Wage and date of payment
Provision of accommodation
Period of notice required to terminate the contract of employment.
Hours of work
Details of any bonus scheme or incentive production scheme in operation
Nature and duration of the annual shutdown
Provision for benefits during sickness
Provision for vacation
Records of such information shall be kept at the company premises and readily available upon request by the Designated Agent.
Upon registration, the NEC will issue a Certificate of Registration which must be displayed at an accessible place in the premises of the company.
